Engagement in the Snow with Alyssa and Jay

Monday, May 17th, 2010

Sometimes the weather has a way of taking over a shoot completely, but that didn’t stop this couple from making the best of it. Alyssa and Jay had to schedule their engagement shoot on a particular weekend because they were coming all the way here from Washington state. The weekend of choice just happened to fall into the weekend of the huge blizzard. As one would expect, their flight was pushed back. While they were supposed to get here on Wednesday, they actually ended up arriving on Friday all thanks to Southwest Airlines.

We still were able to do the shoot and luckily it was really fun to photograph in the snow. Rebecca and I captured the moment as any photojournalists would, and were belly up into the show, covered head to toe looking for those perfect angles. Even Alyssa and Jay got cold and wet but that didn’t stop them from having a good time together. We went to Rittenhouse Square and right at the beginning of the shoot she slid down a snow bank. Unfortunately, the snow was the slightly wet kind and her jeans were soaked. Alyssa had such a good humor about her wet bottom in freezing temperatures that she gave out a huge laugh and let a mishap brighten her day. I guess you would need to have a good sense of humor about life quirkiness though, if your last name was Rosso and your fiancé’s was Ross.

Our next stop has been a staple in Philadelphia since it opened in 1892. Being a home to more than 80 merchants, the Reading Terminal Market is enjoyed by many. Alyssa and Jay love the market and picked up some cheesesteaks at Carmen’s Famous Italian Hoagies and Cheesesteaks, ice cream at Bassetts Ice Cream and produce at Iovine Brothers Produce.

Alyssa and Jay have been used to flexibility and treasuring every moment they have together. This weekend was no different. Jay is in the Army and we are incredibly grateful for the sacrifices that he and Alyssa must make for him to serve and protect this country. Being willing to be separated from your loved ones, no matter how far is difficult, but during wartime this sacrifice may be even more immense. All of us at JPG Photography thank you.

We can’t wait to shoot their wedding this June in Philadelphia.

Patti and David’s Engagement shoot in Baltimore

Saturday, May 15th, 2010

This spring I traveled to Baltimore, Maryland to meet Patti and David.  Using the skills of documentary photography, we captured their day in many places that are closely tied to this countries history.

Patti and David are a medical duo. She is a doctor and he works as a paramedic. Their people skills were obvious when they got comfortable with two photojournalists and multiple cameras in less than ten minutes. Needless to say we all totally had a blast.

For this engagement shoot we stopped at the star-shaped Fort McHenry. A little history lesson for us all; Fort McHenry was defended during the War of 1812 against the British troops.

We also stopped at the historic Federal Hill, which is a neighborhood in Baltimore. Much different than Fort McHenry, Federal Hill is a harbor city that is full of life, color and culture.  There we used the inner harbor and the lighthouse as backdrops for the wonderful couple. The American Visionary Art Museum had a bus decorated in mosaic style with recycled materials. Snuggling close each other against the fragments on the bus created a spectacular mood between the two of them. Patti was especially tickled by a little squirrel statue sporting a wire halo on the front of the bus.

Finally, we topped it all off with some great food at a restaurant in the city.  Ashley and I had such a great time with the couple. They both love to travel and have some really great stories to share. Patti had been to Fiji! We are so excited to shoot their wedding this fall.

New York City Engagement with Tatjana and Matt

Friday, May 14th, 2010

This wedding photojournalist got to travel north to the big apple to meet Tatjana and Matt for their New York City themed engagement shoot this spring. We had some of the most beautiful weather in the world.

It was such a fantastic shoot in a very photogenic spot. We first stopped at Bryant Park, which everyone knows through Project Runway. New York Fashion week is also held there. In the spirit of the “fashionistas” of the area, the couple was definitely fierce, fun and friendly.

Another stop with Tatjana and Matt was at the South Street Sea Port, which is the home of diverse food, art and people in Lower Manhattan’s waterfront.

Of course, we could not leave this vibrant city without a stop in one of the most colorful and visually recognizable spots; Times Square. So we hopped one of those bright yellow taxi-cabs and went right into the middle of New York Cities hectic center of business, entertainment, news and fashion. There the couple’s energy and love for each was as vibrant as the culture that surrounded them.

Their wedding will be this June at Ocean Place Resort in New Jersey. We feel so lucky that we will be able to photograph this awesome couple’s wedding.

Best,

Joe G
