What happens when you combine Japanese pagodas with Italian hors d’oeuvres? A unique clash of culture, and a fun-filled wedding! We at JPG knew we were in for a treat with Thi and Robert at the Ballroom at the Ben in Philadelphia, when we had our first shoot with them last September. During their engagement shoot, they had a silly pillow fight, as they wore Super Mario and Hello Kitty pajamas. They bring out each others’ young and playful sides, feeding off of each others’ energy. And they brought that same joy to their wedding day.
Thi and Robert both prepared at the Palomar in Philadelphia, a Kimpton-brand hotel. This place is awesome, given its modern and chic feel. In fact, we love these hotels so much that we had our JPG retreat last year in a DC-area Kimpton. They gave the top two floors to the wedding party for their use, which was incredibly gracious of them. Once the couple was dressed and ready to go, they made their way to the very top floor, where Thi and Robert shared their first look with an embrace. The room was brilliantly lit from the windows, giving us some great shots of the couple in their moment alone.
Thi and Robert were wed at the Ballroom at the Ben, in the same room that they were to hold their reception. This venue did a great job of turning the huge ballroom space into an intimate setting for the couple and their families. They shared their first kiss, and were whisked away with their parties for some shots in Fairmount Park. We made our way to several different spots, including the Japanese pagoda, the Horticulture Center, and the Bellmont Plateau. The party really embraced the idea of going to the pagoda, as they brought pink umbrellas and had Thi wear a stylish robe.
And the reception really showed the togetherness of the families, as they incorporated their heritages into the food. Hello Kitty made an appearance as a part of the cake toppers, and delicious fruit tarts were served. And the room was filled with golden light and pink favors. The dance floor came alive after dinner, almost always filled to the brim with happy family and friends.
Robert had such an amazing time, as he advises, “the most important thing for a groom is to ensure that his bride doesn‘t let small things get the best of her. As the old adage goes, happy wife = happy life.” In turn, Thi suggests with a smile, “I would give the same advice Joe gave to me… not everything may turn out perfect. The most important thing is that you and Rob love each other and all of your closest friends and family are there for you. Let nothing ruin your day – it is yours!”
Congratulations to the happy couple, Thi and Robert. Continue to laugh and pillow fight together! And thank you for choosing JPG Photography!
P.S. We’re in the running for the Best Photographers’ category in the Philly Hot List – vote for us here before September 7th!
