Why We Love Philly’s Reading Terminal Market for Engagement Shots

Monday, September 12th, 2011

This Philadelphia photojournalist is always excited when there is love and the smell of cheesesteak in the air. Reading Terminal Market is the place for these two things to meet and meat. This location seems to be a popular site among Philadelphians for its high energy and delicious food. The market features food from all around the world and the freshest fruits and veggies from local farms. Chalked full of Philadelphia’s heritage, Reading Terminal Market is the spot to propose something new in a very old place.

As it happens, it is also one of our favorite places for engagement shots. The bright colors and energy of the market are among some of the reasons that Kate and George chose this locale for their engagement photos. Couples Amanda and Steve and August and Nick chose to follow shots from Independence Mall and Old City with photos at Reading Terminal Market. JPG was even awarded the WPJA award for our “whimsical” photo of Alyssa and Jay through cheesesteak-tinted glass.

A sincere thank-you to our Reading Terminal Market couples. It was awesome to visit this landmark and eat cheesesteaks with you.

JPG Photography Receives Award for Philly Engagement Shot

Friday, March 18th, 2011

We just found out that one of our images has been chosen by the WPJA for the 2010 contest! The photo was selected as one of the best for the Engagement Portrait category. The award-winning photograph comes from Alyssa’s and Jay’s snowy engagement shoot last winter.

This moment captures a spontaneous kiss over cheesesteaks at the Reading Terminal Market. Like the judges, we love the whimsicality and the through-the-grill perspective of this shot. We are incredibly honored to be included among the best photojournalists in the world.

Engagement in the Snow with Alyssa and Jay

Monday, May 17th, 2010

Sometimes the weather has a way of taking over a shoot completely, but that didn’t stop this couple from making the best of it. Alyssa and Jay had to schedule their engagement shoot on a particular weekend because they were coming all the way here from Washington state. The weekend of choice just happened to fall into the weekend of the huge blizzard. As one would expect, their flight was pushed back. While they were supposed to get here on Wednesday, they actually ended up arriving on Friday all thanks to Southwest Airlines.

We still were able to do the shoot and luckily it was really fun to photograph in the snow. Rebecca and I captured the moment as any photojournalists would, and were belly up into the show, covered head to toe looking for those perfect angles. Even Alyssa and Jay got cold and wet but that didn’t stop them from having a good time together. We went to Rittenhouse Square and right at the beginning of the shoot she slid down a snow bank. Unfortunately, the snow was the slightly wet kind and her jeans were soaked. Alyssa had such a good humor about her wet bottom in freezing temperatures that she gave out a huge laugh and let a mishap brighten her day. I guess you would need to have a good sense of humor about life quirkiness though, if your last name was Rosso and your fiancé’s was Ross.

Our next stop has been a staple in Philadelphia since it opened in 1892. Being a home to more than 80 merchants, the Reading Terminal Market is enjoyed by many. Alyssa and Jay love the market and picked up some cheesesteaks at Carmen’s Famous Italian Hoagies and Cheesesteaks, ice cream at Bassetts Ice Cream and produce at Iovine Brothers Produce.

Alyssa and Jay have been used to flexibility and treasuring every moment they have together. This weekend was no different. Jay is in the Army and we are incredibly grateful for the sacrifices that he and Alyssa must make for him to serve and protect this country. Being willing to be separated from your loved ones, no matter how far is difficult, but during wartime this sacrifice may be even more immense. All of us at JPG Photography thank you.

We can’t wait to shoot their wedding this June in Philadelphia.
