A Philadelphia Wedding Photographer + Toys “R” Us

When this Philadelphia Wedding Photographer was told by Kathy and Anthony that wanted to go somewhere different for their photos, I never expected to hear Toys “R” Us.

As a suburban Philadelphia native, I was familiar with this store in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, and I was thrilled it had meaning to them. Both Kathy and Anthony, while dating in college, had a date in a Toys “R” Us to save money, and they had a great time. So about 20 minutes after the ceremony, we arrived and shot these amazing action shots. I personally love the ones with the dogs and the high action! This was so much fun, and I wish more of my couples would let their kid-side out. It’s really a beautiful thing. So many people in the store couldn’t believe it, but they congratulated the couple and laughed along with them. This is Philadelphia Photojournalism at its best. Just have a blast and capture the love!

I have to thank Toys “R” Us for giving us permission for this 30-minute shoot. It was fantastic, and a memory for them for life!

More photos from the whole wedding, from Feb. 20, will be online at Pictage soon at: www.pictage.com/619643, so register now. I was too excited to wait for these! Congrats you two!

Best,

Joe G

Historic and Classy Wedding in Fredericksburg, Virginia

For a wedding planned for Dec. 27, snow is typically the greatest fear. But for Molly & Cyrus, the fear was sunscreen. This Philadelphia Wedding Photographer enjoyed a brisk perfect summer-feeling day with them, reaching a high of about 75 degrees. Whatever they did to guarantee such pleasant temperatures in Fredericksburg, Virginia needs to be bottled up and sold! Call it “Perfect Wedding Weather!” It would make millions. As I thought about it more, the weather really matched the couple. They were in love, and showed a brilliance Bec and I really admire

Molly got ready nearby at the beautiful Kenmore Inn. We had fantastic lighting for natural photojournalism, and her family supported her the whole time. We found some great dress shots, and used the Christmas Tree and decorations to our advantage. While I stayed with Molly, the guys were getting ready at the Richard Johnston Inn. Then Bec went to have fun with the guys over at their beautiful church, St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception. They were so cute, and we loved using the light from the awesome stained glass.

Then we headed to downtown Fredericksburg to one of the best reception sites, Fredericksburg Square, a site, ironically, I realized I shot at before years ago when I was just starting and helping my mom with some civil war history. Fredericksburg is loaded with Civil War history, as is Philadelphia. There was an event at the Square honoring our family friend, Brian Pohanka, and I took photos of him in front of the Square’s classic fireplace, just as I did with the family at the wedding.

Before the celebration started, the undertook a beautiful Persian Ceremony in an upstairs hall. It was really a wonderful ethnic experience filled with color, good food and classic tradition. There was also lovely poetry by Rumi, one of the best known poets in history. I love it when couples make the day their own, and Molly and Cyrus did such a great job of incorporating their heritage and their personalities. This second ceremony gave a depth and character to their wedding they will never forget.

After the formals were out of the way, it was time to PARTY! It was a great night! We were so honored.

Best,

Joe G & Bec

A Philadelphia Rev. Pastor Retires with fun and class

Monday, February 16th, 2009

As many of you know, this Philadelphia Wedding Photographer doesn’t do a whole lot of strict portraits in the City of Brotherly Love. But, I’m beginning to bridge this gap with photojournalism assignments with a great deal of meaning to me.

I’ve been a member of Central Baptist Church in Wayne, Pa, for eight years, and on beautiful Feb. 1, one of our two pastors, the fun, classy and awesome, Rev. and pastor Marcus Pomeroy retired. This man has meant a great deal to Rebecca and I because we were married by him, and another co-pastor, Marcia Bailey.

When I heard the news of this spiritual man’s retirement, I had to do something to show him and his amazing wife, Nancy, how much they mean to us, and our church community of American Baptists. But I didn’t just want to document the moment. Marcus is a force and the backbone of our social justice community. We have many important spiritual and church leaders, too, but the church world often revolves around the pastor and church leadership.

So I took it upon myself to find Marcus’ personality. At first, I thought this would be difficult. In a way, this is his legacy, too. But Marcus is too much fun, and he has too much energy, to let a little old portrait become stoic. My Canon cameras love him. So do I. He and Nancy had a blast, and I left this suburban Philadelphia church, part of the American Society of Baptists, completely exhausted. I felt like I need to retire when I was done!

To Marcus and Nancy, we love you, and we’re better for having you in our lives!

Best,

Joe G & (Bec)
