Christina and Jake chose the picturesque grounds of the Kimberton Inn as the backdrop for their mid-August wedding, and this Philadelphia photojournalist was thrilled to document every moment as it unfolded.  This historical inn was built in 1796, and the surrounding village of Kimberton has ties to this country’s Quaker heritage and the Underground Railroad.  In fact, the Village of Kimberton is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  As you can probably tell, it was gorgeous inside and out.  The ambient light produced beautiful warm colors from getting ready to the reception.

After years as a Philadelphia Wedding Photographer, JPG Photography, has had his share of outdoor wedding ceremonies.  Some are overcast, others a bit damp, and still others quite windy.  But Christina and Jake’s August wedding was celebrated on the most picture-perfect of days.  The sun was shining nearly as brightly as the love in their faces. Although, it was hard to ignore the heat. So the air-conditioning was much appreciated!

Anticipation filled the room where Christina and her maid of honor prepared the festivities.  One of my favorite shots is make-up artist Janet Indorf of Face the Occasion watching with glee as Christina looks in a handheld mirror.  It’s moments like these that this Philadelphia wedding photojournalist craves, and at this wedding, there were plenty!

As Christina walked down the aisle in her custom-made veil from Jeannette Schlegel Designs, carrying a hand-selected bouquet from Blue Moon Florist, it was all Jake could do not to cry! God put these two together!

The celebration continued with Ken Buono of No Macarena DJ’s leading the fun on the dance floor, and was there ever fun!  Christina twirled around the dance floor in her elegant gown from Lizelle’s Bridal as if she was born to wear that dress.  Jake held her close for the slow songs and then really knew how to break it down.  In fact, all of Christina’s and Jake’s guests, even a few from Eastern University — my wife’s alma mater — seemed to know how to boogie.

If fun, intimacy, and elegance are any indications of a long and happy marriage, Christina and Jake, you two are set for life!  It was a blessing to capture these wedding moments for you.

For Charlotte and Zach’s classy wedding, they found the elegant Elkridge Furnace Inn in Elkridge, Maryland.

When it rained the night before their wedding, Charlotte asked everyone at her rehearsal dinner to say prayers or enact voodoo rituals of any kind to stave off bad weather. Whatever her guests did worked because the next day dawned bright and sunny. Charlotte and her Dad stole the show with a dramatic long walk from the house to the courtyard, and their outdoor ceremony at the Maryland historic site was aglow with natural light, beautiful flowers from Fleur de Lis Florist, and a soft summer breeze. This Philadelphia Wedding Photographer remains mad impressed with her sunny sky skills!

Charlotte’s dress, by Mori Lee from Longmont Bridal Connection, was the perfect combination of simplicity and elegance, which is exactly what the entire wedding celebration was all about. We snagged some cute photos of the bridal party acting sassy on the grounds of the Furnace Inn and then proceeded to the reception, where the band Classroom Dragons really got things moving!  Zach’s dad even joined them for a couple of songs, grabbed the microphone and totally wowed the crowd!  The percussionist played his drumsticks on just about anything he could find — beer bottles, tabletops, wine glasses and more. We even had a cousin accordion player! I don’t think a single soul was sitting down by the end of it!

Thanks Charlotte and Zach for inviting us to the celebration of your love and commitment to one another. May you have this much fun together as you grow in your marriage!  You two are a blast!

Best,

Joe G & Bec

Angie and Arthur Celebrate in Silver Spring and Rockville, Maryland

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

In late June, this Philadelphia wedding photographer had the opportunity to photograph Angie and Arthur’s wedding at the Lutheran Church of St. Andrew in Silver Spring, Maryland. Not only was this couple insanely in love with each other, but their day flowed seamlessly from one moment to the next. They took into consideration their own desires for the perfect wedding day, along with their Korean families. As a result, love was a part of every detail.

Before the ceremony even began, Arthur sent his bride a special note, which brought tears to Angie’s eyes. (And this Philadelphia photojournalist was there to discretely capture the moment.) Then, in order to take some formal shots beforehand, I set up a moment for the two of them to see each other for the first time. Sometimes, couples are anxious about breaking the tradition of the groom not seeing the bride before the ceremony, but Angie and Arthur ended up with a moment that was as holy and beautiful as any I’ve seen. They met in the front of the church and privately celebrated their imminent union before doing so publicly.

The ceremony itself was lovely, with worship music and meaningful prayers. Angie and Arthur really made their wedding a sacred and meaningful celebration. You really had to enjoy that music!

What followed was an amazing reception with rows and rows of delectable food from KC Catering, from potstickers to sushi. With nearly 400 guests, Angie and Arthur wanted to share a meal with all of their invitees, and this was a great way to do it. I can’t tell you how many great pictures we got of people chowing down and loving it!

After cutting the cake from 5 Sweet Peas Cake, Angie and Arthur said goodbye to many of their guests and proceeded to their after-party at Vis Arts, the Metropolitan Center for the Visual Arts at Rockville. This gathering served as a more intimate affair for close friends and family, complete with dancing, hors d’ oeuvres, and dancing. Oh, and did I mention dancing? There was so much twirling and twisting and all-around jamming to music by DJ Jaime Easson, that this Philadelphia photographer was always on his feet!

Angie and Arthur managed to pull of a logistically perfect day with beautiful blue skies! They were able to solve the age-old conundrum of wanting to invite hundreds of guests, but simultaneously desiring the intimacy of a smaller reception. They left enough time beforehand to snag some amazing pictures, without making their guests wait too long. Quiet moments together plus TWO big parties. What could be better?

Congratulations, you two! We’re thrilled for your happiness. May you celebrate for years to come.

Philadelphia Wedding Photographer in D.C.’s Capitol File Magazine

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

As a Philadelphia wedding photographer, one of my favorite parts of the wedding day is the in-between time. I tell each of my couples that it’s a great idea to leave a little time either before they tie the knot at the ceremony, or before the reception, to do some fun shots of just the two of them. And sometimes we even bring the wedding party.

With Amy and Carlos’ wedding, we started at the Four Points by Sheraton in Northeast Philadelphia. Later, we had a luxurious several hours between the ceremony at Resurrection of Our Lord Church in Philadelphia and the reception at the Northampton Valley Country Club in Northampton, Pennsylvania.

We all put our heads together and came up with an incredible array of photojournalistic portrait locations in the greater Philadelphia area. You might be asking how the words “photojournalism” and “portrait” found their way into the same sentence. As a Philadelphia photojournalist, I despise cheesy posed pictures because they rarely look like the real bride and groom. Instead, I like to take couples on location to places where they can forget the camera and be themselves. Hence, a photojournalistic portrait.
